Chantilly, France
Chantilly, France
Chantilly is located 45 km north of Paris on the D1016. The best access by road, however, is by the A1 motorway to Junction 7, the D1017 to La Chapelle en Serval and then D924a to Chantilly. We are about 25 minutes by road from Charles de Gaulle Airport and the church is about 20 minutes walk from the mainline station which has trains from Amiens, Compiègne and Paris (25-40 minutes from the Gare du Nord). Once in Chantilly, follow signs to Eglise St Peter's from the traffic lights by The English Shop on the rue du Connétable.

Chantilly is a country town of around 12,000 inhabitants on the southern edge of the Departement of Oise, itself in the south of the Region of Picardie. Famous for its lace, cream and porcelain, it is best known now for it's forest, it's Museum of the Living Horse and above all its superb Chateau which houses one of the most important collections of art in France.Horse racing is a major focus of the town, with large numbers of horses in training and a fine race course with racing from late spring until the most prestigious meetings in June, and again in September.

Facilities

The town is well maintained and has a busy life, with a Cultural Centre and Library (which includes an English Language Section) and thriving sports facilities. For more information visit the websites of the Town Council and the Tourist Office.

Schools

There are good schools, both public and private, in Chantilly and the surrounding the area. Many English-speaking families choose to enrol their children in classed organised by APARC (Association des Parents Anglophones de la Région de Chantilly). The classes for children from the age of 3 to 17 are complementary to the French school system which supports the association in many ways. APARC takes young pupils up to IGCSE level in English and has an excellent success rate. For more information on organizations mentioned above use our Links page to go to that agency's web site.
