A Great Wave of Prayer

Posted by: MORELLE on Wednesday May 16, 2018

In May 2016 the Archbishops of Canterbury and York called for 'a great wave of prayer' in the week leading up to Pentecost, under the banner ‘Thy Kingdom Come’. The vision was renewal and empowering of the Church and Christian witness, and that through prayer Jesus would be made known to thousands of people.
"Without prayer, the Christian life and witness is barren.
With prayer the life of Jesus overflows from us to others."
So - why stop at Pentecost? We think that the simple pattern of prayer overleaf, using the Lord’s Prayer daily, is a great way to continue to build a wave of life-changing prayer.

“It is impossible to overstate the life-transforming power of the Lord’s Prayer. When we pray it with sincerity and with joy, there is no imagining the new ways in which God can use us to his glory.”

The Right Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury.

Take time to let each phrase of the Lord's Prayer sink in to heart and mind.
Spend a few seconds in silence before God before voicing any prayers.

Our Father in heaven
Give thanks for who God is and all he gives you.

Hallowed be your name
Pray that the name of Jesus will be increasingly recognized and honoured - in France, in your own nation, and worldwide.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
Pray for God’s love to direct all your relationships and conversations where you live and work, so that through you people will meet Jesus.
Pray for those you know who are in need, to be reached by God’s love.

Give us today our daily bread
Pray for your needs in the day ahead.
Ask for your home to be a place where more people of all ages discover God’s love and mercy. Pray this for Saint Michael's too.
Pray into some of the current needs of our church.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us
Ask God to help you confess the times when you have not reached out with love, or when your heart has been fearful or hard.
Ask for new boldness to talk about the difference Jesus has made in your life. Pray for a friend, colleague or family member.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
Pray for Christ's protection on his Church worldwide. Picture the millions of Christians worldwide who are praying today.

For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever
Pray for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Saint Michael’s and the worldwide Church. Pray that many people across the world will discover the truth about Jesus.
Amen. Close by praying the Lord's Prayer in full.
